AI & disruptive innovation

Explore new idea and creation of knowledge through global multidisciplinary applied research

DISRUPTIVE INNOVATION

-Innovation involves the whole process from opportunity identification, ideation or invention to development, prototyping, production marketing and sales, while entrepreneurship only needs to involve commercialization (Schumpeter).

-Disruptive innovation opens doors for new entrants who target unnoticed customers and meet their needs at a lower price, also can create a market where it does not exist.

-Market place is hostile to incumbents, who now needs to conduct radical/disruptive business innovation (Gary Hamel) :

  • Radically reconceiving products and services, not just developing new products and services
  • Redefining market space
  • Redrawing industry boundaries

HUMAN-CENTRIC CARE AND WELLNESS

AI FOR heALTHCARE & wellness

First line: consultation

AI is used in healthcare is through digital consultations. Indeed, AI systems of consultations are able to learn from true cases to then ask pertinent questions to patients and recommended them appropriate actions

AI doctors will eventually replace human physicians in the future.

Second line: diagnose & treatment decision-making

  • AI to diagnose disease
  • Critical illness
  • Critical illness 50+
  • AI can predict and diagnose disease at a faster rate than most medical professionals.
  • Improving care requires the alignment of big health data with appropriate and timely decisions, and predictive analytics can support clinical decision-making and actions as well as prioritise administrative tasks.
  • Using pattern recognition to identify patients at risk of developing a condition – or seeing it deteriorate due to lifestyle, environmental, genomic, or other factors – is another area where AI is beginning to take hold in healthcare.
  • AI cuts down time needed in diagnosis: AI based healthcare apps have a strong advantage in coming up with accurate disease diagnosis in a swift time frame. This is possible because of the amount of data and millions of symptoms/diagnosis these AI apps have. This makes AI more time efficient and cost efficient in coming up with the disease diagnosis.

early detection/prevention for all

  • personalized medical care is optimized for individuals to maintain health and improve the quality of lives where is possible and to do a wide range of activities more freely
  • AI is also being applied to oversee early-stage heart disease, enabling doctors and other caregivers to better monitor and detect potentially life-threatening episodes at earlier, more treatable stages
  • AI helps in early diagnosis: By implementing AI, healthcare professionals can reap the benefit of early detection by pinpointing any risks highlighted by the AI algorithm. The AI database gathered over a period of time compiles a lot of symptoms and diagnosis to accurately predict potential health risks in a patient.
  • Symptom Tracking: This is an important option when it comes to applications. Having a symptom tracker helps the application development and its users find out more about their health and risks by the consistent logging of symptoms to trace patterns and have an accurate reading.

Drugs

  • Creation of new drugs
  • Drug research and discovery is one of the more recent applications for AI in healthcare. By directing the latest advances in AI to streamline the drug discovery and drug repurposing processes there is the potential to significantly cut both the time to market for new drugs and their costs.

Health Self Management

  • "Health as the ability to adapt and self-manage, in light of the physical, emotional and social challenges of life“ (Bolk)
  • Self-management until pension
  • monitor, detect, prevent, treat and manage disease
  • healthier behaviour in individuals and help with the proactive management of a healthy lifestyle. It puts consumers in control of health and well-being.
  • blood/urine testing and results

customized advise

  • Wellness
  • Happyness
  • Enhance life quality
  • Fitness
  • Definition of health services broadens and role changes. Consumers embrace “wellbeing” value prop with players increasingly connecting care delivery, wellness, social, psychological, lifestyle aspects as important components, along with other holistic protection approaches (such as ancillary) into platform offerings.

AI FOR women

pregnancy

  • Period and Fertility Tracker for Women: This application works both ways and suits women trying to get pregnant and women trying to avoid unexpected pregnancy. Based on the data they will input, the app helps generate accurate information so women can track their period and calculate their fertility. It also includes keeping track of their menstrual cycle and basal body temperature. Another important option is being able to log PMS symptoms in the calendar that helps track behavior during a certain period in the whole cycle. This helps women get valuable insights pertaining to their health behavior.
  • Pregnancy App: Though applications do not replace the need for medical care, they are still very helpful during pregnancy. For moms or moms-to-be, a pregnancy app helps keep track of the body changes while guiding mothers on what’s normal during a certain period and what’s not. Aside from guidance in pregnancy planning, it also gives information when it comes to a good diet plan while pregnant.

improve the quality of human life through advances in artificial intelligence and robotics

  • With the growth of AI, new technologies will emerge that will have applications in the senior living industry. Care homes in countries like Japan are already using a variety of AI-powered tools including robots, sensors, and software to make up for a shortage of skilled care workers. These technologies will have the potential to provide benefits to all parties involved in the industry, from staff and health workers to residents and family members.
  • New monitoring technology will allow staff to collect data on residents more easily, and smart software with voice recognition will allow them to become more efficient at day-to-day tasks. Sensors and other health devices that use AI will provide healthcare professionals with better visibility into residents’ health, and the increased collection of data will give them the ability to make more accurate diagnoses.
  • Robots, chatbots, and other software systems will be able to improve the quality of life of the residents by interacting with them as well as facilitating better community integration. Additionally, AI-powered software will be able to provide family members of residents with better visibility into their care with updates and insights.

mobility

  • make outdoor mobility accessible to everyone, regardless of ability (mobility for the aging and disabled populations)
  • apply robotics technology to indoor environments, particularly for the support of seniors (robots to develop “indoor mobility” services)
  • Robotics / Mobility Development of solutions for age-related metabolic, motor and cognitive dysfunction at home and at work, in urban and rural environments, to allow for extended periods of independent life.
  • Robots have the potential to revolutionise end of life care, helping people to remain independent for longer, reducing the need for hospitalisation and care homes.

Social interactions

  • AI-robots would look like humanoid and would be able to discuss and have social interactions, in regards to problems of loneliness and isolation
  • social companion technologies to positively impact the lives of millions of older adults by connecting them seamlessly with family and friends, making technology accessible and intuitive, and proactively promoting an active lifestyle. the Active Aging Companion.
  • AI combined with the advancements in humanoid design are enabling robots to go even further and have ‘conversations’ and other social interactions with people to keep aging minds sharp.
  • Assistive social robots, a particular type of assistive robotics designed for social interaction with humans could play an important role with respect to health and psychological well-being of the elderly. Such robots are developed to function as an interface for elderly to digital technology and to help increase the quality of life of the elderly by providing companionship respectively.
  • The AI-powered companion robot can hold conversations with patients, remind them to take their medications, and lead them in light physical activities to improve physical and mental health.
  • AI can be used to help residents become more socially engaged, which may help reduce the risk of cognitive decline or dementia. Researchers at IBM and the University of California have committed $16 million to a 5-year study that will test how AI can be used to detect mild cognitive impairment earlier.Additionally, chatbots and companion robots powered by AI will be able to interact with residents to simulate social engagement. However, these simulated companions should be seen as an addition to regular social interaction rather than a replacement. AI-powered software can also be used to allow residents to more easily interact with others.

healthy ageing

Healthcare is an area where artificial intelligence will have one of the largest impacts. Using sensors and monitoring devices, AI is able to perform more accurate detection and prevention of potential risks to physical, mental and cognitive health.

monitoring

  • take charge of own health – by detecting early signs of disease and by being better equipped to understand and monitor their own treatment
  • Living independently and safely for longer at home (keeping the decision and control of their daily activities)
  • Medication Reminder. For the elderly, taking duplicate or unnecessary medications or forgetting to take their medications altogether can greatly increase the risk of adverse reactions.
